“Cat years” is a way to express a cat’s age in terms of human years. The calculation is not as straightforward as the well-known “seven dog years to one human year” ratio. The aging process for cats is more rapid in the first two years of their life. Here’s a general guideline for converting cat years to human years:
- The first year of a cat’s life is equivalent to approximately 15 human years.
- The second year of a cat’s life is equivalent to about 9 human years.
- After that, each additional year in a cat’s life is around 4 human years.
So, a 3-year-old cat would be roughly 28 in human years (15 years for the first year + 9 years for the second year + 4 years for the third year). It’s important to note that this is a rough estimate and individual cats may age differently based on their health, breed, and living conditions.
